Bilquis Mir becomes first Indian woman appointed as judge for Asian Games

SRINAGAR, Sept 11: The journey that started in Srinagar’s Dal Lake has now reached the world; Bilquis Mir became the only Indian woman and the first from Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) to be appointed as jury member at the 19th Asian Games scheduled to be held in Hangzhou China from September 23.
Bilquis Mir is also the Director of Water Sports, Jammu and Kashmir, will be judging hundreds of athletes participating in this sport. This is the first time that any Indian woman athlete will be judging Canoeing sport at such an international event.
“I am honoured to have received an invitation to serve as a judge at the 19th Asian Games in China, a prestigious international event. Being a part of such a significant occasion brings me great pride. Over the past 21 years, my family and I have faced numerous challenges and worked tirelessly to reach this point. Finally, all my efforts have been rewarded,” she shared with Excelsior.
