Sir,
This has reference to the ‘Biodiversity Day’ which was observed on May 22 throughout the State.
In this context, it may be said that Government of Jammu and Kashmir issued two messages regarding importance of biodiversity in our life. These messages were published in many newspapers of the State. However, it may be said that people are not much aware of the day, as no one seems interested in saving biodiversity. Rather, some may not be even aware of the term bio-diversity itself.
In context of saving water bodies from perishing in the State, it is imperative that people are familiarised with importance of these water bodies and the role they play in our life. There was a time when many ponds dotted the landscape of Jammu Province. Now, day by day they are vanishing. These ponds played an important role in meeting the water needs of people here. Besides using their water for cooking purposes, it was used for agriculture purposes and rearing domestic animals. That is now a thing of the past.
We can certainly overcome water shortage in the province, if we take care of bowlies and springs existing even now in some rural areas.
Yours etc….
