Biodiversity Week concludes at JU

JAMMU, Feb 18: Biodiversity Week organized in the Department of Zoology, University of Jammu concluded today.
Different events were organized under the pendency of this event.
The Zoological Club was inaugurated by Prof Roopma Gandotra, Head of the Department and Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof KK Sharma on February 15, whereas on February 16, a quiz, poster and slogans competitions on the theme Environment Conservation and Biodiversity was organized, in which students of MSc 2nd and 4th semesters and Research Scholars (MPhil and PhD) participated.
The quiz was organized on the theme National Heritage Interpretation in collaboration with Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K Govt.
On February 17, lectures on State Biodiversity were organized starting with the interactive session on Avianentomo Diversity and their relation with the plants by OP Sharma, Director, DEERS, in the Zoological Park of Department of Zoology, University of Jammu followed by the lecture by RK Dogra, Director, Fisheries, on the topic Status of Aquaculture and Fisheries of J&K.
On valedictory day today, the Alumni Meet was held in the seminar hall of Department of Zoology, wherein Prof YR Malhotra was the chief guest and the Alumni from different departments of J&K Government including Scientists, Administrators, Civil Servants and Entrepreneurs were present.
The inaugural lectures were delivered by Prof Roopma Gandotra, Head of the Department and Prof KK Sharma, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences.
The cultural programme was also organized by MSc. The senior faculty members from erstwhile Biosciences Department, faculty members of Department of Zoology, students and research scholars were also present.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Prof JS Tara.
