It is heartening to read that the Jammu administration has launched the Aadhar enabled Biometrix Attendance System(BAS),with the Deputy Commissioner Jammu being the first employee in the District to mark his attendance on the portal.Biometric attendance will help a lot in checking absenteeism in Government offices. Hopefully the scheme of Biometric attendance will be extended to other districts and rural areas of the state.Often there are reports of Government employees being found absent from duty by the Inspection teams constituted to check attendance in govt offices.Only the other day, this newspaper carried two separate reports of employees having been found absent from duty in Poonch and Ganderbal districts.This system is functioning successfully in many private companies and if extended to the offices and institutions falling in rural and farflung areas,the District administration will be able to monitor the attendance in those areas in an effective and proper manner and thus, save a lot of time and money which, otherwise is wasted by paying visits to these offices.It will also help a lot in improving efficiency in the offices as no employee will now be able to leave his/ her office before the scheduled time.
