Bismah, Sheerazah, Sandhya demolish formidable Nagaland by 59 runs

KOLKATA, Oct 31: Bismah Hassan and skipper Sandhya Sayal’s brilliance with the ball, while Sheerazah Banoo and Nadia Chowdhary’s excellence and exuberance with the willow helped J&K to thrash formidable Nagaland by a big margin of 59 runs in their Plate Group Round III match of the BCCI’s Senior Women One Day Tournament at JU Second Campus, Salt Lake, here today.
Earlier, J&K skipper Sandhya Sayal won the toss and elected to bat first.
Batting first, J&K lost early wickets and were tottering at 46/6 at one stage, with almost all the top and middle-order batters back to the pavilion. However, dependable Sheerazah Banoo and gritty all-rounder Nadia Chowdhary once again salvaged the sinking ship by making a magnificent partnership of 63 runs to take the score to 109 runs, before Nadia was dismissed at her individual score of 28 runs off 65 balls.
However, Sheerazah continued her focus and played sensibly to score valuable 40 runs off 86 balls to help her team put a decent total of 143 runs on the board in 50 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Bismah Hassan and Rudrakshi Chib contributed unbeaten 15 and 10 runs to the total respectively. Sarla Devi also scored 9 runs.
None of the other batters could manage to cross the double figure mark. Nadia and Sheerazah in particular, while consolidating the innings were in sublime touch and hit the ball with fluid grace and utter brilliance. For Nagaland, Gautami Naik and Kiran Navgire took 2 wickets each, while Elina and Marensola claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, Nagaland bundled out for 84 runs in 35.2 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 59 runs. Gautami Naik top scored with 26 runs, while Elina and Talirenla contributed 16 runs each.
Bismah was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 4 important wickets by conceding 28 runs in her 10 overs, while skipper Sandhya was once again economical, who bowled 8.2 overs and took 3 important wickets by conceding just 15 runs and Sarla Devi took 2 wickets.
J&K will face Bihar in their next outing on November 1 at 22 Yards, Salt Lake, Kolkata.
