JAMMU, Oct 16: To lodge their protest against the Flood Control Department for its failure to construct the protection wall at Belicharana, the residents of area led by BJP senior leader Vikram Randhawa staged a protest at Bikram Chowk, here today.
The protestors raising slogans against the Flood Control Department demanded that immediately protection work of the area be taken up in hand.
Addressing the protestors Randhawa said that though a month has passed when the devastating floods snatched everything from the residents of Belicharana area, nothing has been done by the Flood Control Department to rehabilitate them. Even their main demand to construct a RCC wall to save themselves from the floods in future has not been fulfilled.
Pertinent to mention that due to recent flood in the Belicharana area more than 850 families have lost their property, land as well as their entire livestock had been marooned in the flood waters.
Till now they are looking towards the Flood Control Department and urged them to construct a RCC wall, but none of the government official used to visit them. The BJP leader further urged the Government to complete the process of construction of a protection wall for the residents otherwise they will be forced to come on streets and will block the Tawi bridge.
Among others present during the protest included Subash Chander, Lucky Manhas, Farooq Ahmed, Nazir Ahmed, Munshi Shah, Anil Kumar etc.
