JAMMU, Dec 25: Various functions were held across the State by BJP and BJYM to celebrate the 89th birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee today.
The day was cele3brated as good governance day by the Party and various programmes were organized in the State. The main function was organized at Party Headquarters under the leadership of Jammu District President Rajesh Gupta, where a havan was performed. Party State president Jugal Kishore Sharma, Leader of its Legislative Party, Ashok Khajuria and other senior leaders were present on the occasion.
Jammu West District under its President Subash Jandial along with State general secretary Kavinder Gupta, district general secretary Arvind Gupta and other leaders celebrated the day by cutting the cake in Rehari Colony area of the city.
Similarly, Talab Tillo Mandal of BJP under its president Ayodhya Gupta celebrated the day with gaiety amid slogans of Atal Behari Vajpayee Zindabad-Zindabad.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while praying for long life of Atalji, said that by his conduct he had setup an example for others to follow. He rose to the highest position in the country by the dint of his hard work, dedication and sincerity for upliftment of the people and the country.
Ashok Khajuria said that Atal Behari Vajpayee worked throughout his life to see that the motherland and its offspring live happily in prosperity and harmony and worked towards nation building. He sincerely tried to build bridges of friendship and understanding with all the neighboring countries including Pakistan.

Ashok Kumar Khajuria, Rajinder Sharma, Naresh Dogra, Arun Chhibber, Kulbushan Mohtra, Vikram Randhawa, Vinay Gupta,  Sanjay Baru, Jaideep Sharma, Ravinder Raina, Surinder Bhagat, Baldev Singh Beloria, Arvind Gupta, Surinder Choudhary, Ravinder Gupta, Jeet Angral, Surinder Mahajan, Ajay Vaid, T.S. Slathia, Bharat Sharma, Ashwani Khosla, Praduman Singh, Harbans Choudhary, Ayodhya Gupta, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) celebrated the day in a novel way by rolling out a nation-wide campaign on literacy and distributing study kits to children at Rehari.
On this occasion Incharge BJYM’s School Chale Ham Karn Sharma  said society will not develop unless education is imparted to all.
BJYM State incharge Yudhvir Sethi said “It is sad to note that the world’s largest democracy still has maximum illiterate population.
BJP Udhampur Mandal, celebrated the birth anniversary of Mr Vajpayee at Dabber Chowk, Udhampur. The celebration was held under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Buccha, Udhampur BJP Mandal president while senior BJP leader and Member State BJP Election Committee Pawan Gupta was specially present.
BJYM held another function at Channi Himmat to celebrate the 89th birthday of former Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Atal Behari Vajpayee at Channi Himmat Jammu.
The party activists under the leadership of Jammu district president, BJYM Ishant Gupta celebrated the event by cutting cake, distributing sweets & dancing.
In Kashmir a special function despite the bad weather condition was organized by Muslim Morcha of the Party led by Mushtaq Noorabadi in which the Partymen prayed for the long life of veteran leader who in real sense initiated a process for strengthening the roots of democracy in the State.
