JAMMU, Nov 5: Former Minister and BJP leader, Sham Lal Sharma today said that Government under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is committed to establish a vibrant and effective Panchayati Raj system in Union Territories (UTs) of J&K and Ladakh to decentralize power at the grass-root level.
While honouring the newly elected BDC Chairman, Neena Sharma of (Block Seri),Balkrishan Sharma (Block Siot) Adv Khaliq Firdous (Block Qila Darhal) , MC Chairman Rajinder Sharma (Sunderbani) and Narinder Sharma (Naushera) at Sunderbani Dak Bungalow, Sharma said that it was first time in the political history of J&K and Ladakh that Block Development Councils (BDCs) elections were held to second tier of the three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in both the UTs.
“Smoothful conduct of BDC elections is an indication that Union Government led by Narendra Modi is committed to empower people at the grass-root level so as to decentralize decision making at village level”, he said and pointed out that over 98 percent turnout in the BDC elections has sent a clear message to those who had boycotted the poll for petty political gains.
The felicitation program was organised by district president, SunderbanI-Naushera Capt (retd) Som Dutt and district Seh Prabhari, Neena Sharma.
“Earlier these parties had boycotted Panchayat and ULB elections but the people had rejected their call”, he reminded, while pointing towards nearly 90 percent turnout in Panchayati elections held in the year 2018. “People have realized that by giving boycott calls, such political groups were trying to sabotage any process to strengthen democratic institutions at the grass-root level”, Sharma lauded people for giving a befitting reply to such parties in these elections.
