JAMMU, Aug 7: Condemning the uncalled lathicharge on the protesting villagers, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that in a democracy every individual has a right to protest and police cannot silent the voice of the people by using force.
Addressing a press conference today, BJP Jammu district general secretary, Omi Khajuria, while extending full support to the genuine demands of the people, said that they are not asking for moon from this heartless Government nor they are adopting any violent means. They are just holding peaceful protest on Jammu-Akhnoor road demanding what they have been deprived of despite repeated assurances and promises.
Omi Khajuria said that the present NC-Congress Coalition Government has always adopted a negative attitude towards the common masses while its whole concern and focus has remained to shield corrupt elements.
Khajuria said police used force and resorted to lathicharge yesterday on the protesting villagers at Gumpul Purkhoo on Jammu-Poonch road. They were just demanding replacement of their burnt transformer but were beaten severely injuring many of them.
He urged upon the SSP Jammu to hold an enquiry and take an action against the erring policemen without any further delay.
