JAMMU, Oct 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha today staged a protest outside Raj Bhawan against hike in price of LPG and putting a cap on subsidized cooking gas cylinders.
Addressing the gathering, Meenakshi Lekhi, National Vice President, BJP Mahila Morcha, said that today common man cannot arrange even two square meals a day for his family as prices of all food items have risen manifold. She said people had expected that Congress-led UPA would ensure minimum basic amenities at reasonable prices but their hopes have been shattered.
BJP Mahila Morcha, State president, said that BJP Mahila Morcha has been continuously agitating over the issues, which have been affecting the common man, adding, that Mahila Morcha would intensify its agitation on the issue of LPG.
While speaking, Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the recent decision of the Congress-led UPA on LPG has witnessed widespread resentment and anger through out the country.
He said that in J&K the situation is worse as the LPG consumers are being harassed on the name of re-verification of the documents.
Later, Meenakshi Lekhi along with other leaders of the Morcha submitted memorandum to the Governor on the issue.
The proceedings of the dharna were conducted by BJP Mahila Morcha, State general secretary, Priya Sethi, while, vice-president, Raj Rani Jamwal and district president, Anju Dogra presented vote of thanks.
Among others present were Suresh Jamwal, Usha Choudhary, Purnima Sharma, Mamta Singh, Shilpi Verma, Vimla Padha, Anuradha Charak, Parveen Arora, etc.
