NAGROTA, Mar 19: Castigating PDP for its double standards and political deceit, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday advised its leadership to stop playing hide and seek for lust of power.
“Instead of playing second fiddle to BJP, let it openly assume the role of its extension in Jammu and Kashmir”, Mr Rana said while addressing party workers at Bamyal, Gondla, Pangali, Dung, Dammi, Panjgrian and Ban areas of Nagrota.
The Provincial President asked PDP and BJP not to undermine people’s sagacity, who, he said, were wise enough to read between the lines and see through their game-plan. “By behaving like ostrich, the PDP leadership was not hoodwinking the public opinion but in fact it was deceiving itself”, he said while referring to its clandestine understanding with the saffron brigade on cutting secular votes to facilitate the victory of BJP candidates in Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary Constituencies in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
He, however, warned the two parties against committing the mistake of 2008 by polarising the people and vitiating the atmosphere, as much water has flown down since then. He said the people were not going to get swayed by the false slogans of religion being in danger. “We have braved all odds during the past five years and traded the arduous journey with a sense of commitment to foil the nefarious designs of peace inimical elements”, he declared.
“The fact that PDP was creation of BJP being no secret, the two parties were pursuing the agenda tailored in New Delhi in a methodical manner”, he said and reiterated the resolve of his party not to allow such machinations to succeed. He said Jammu and Kashmir has to flourish as a secular and forward looking entity.
The Provincial President said that the people have to make a decisive choice between dream merchants and those who were sincerely pursuing the agenda of development in all the three regions of the State. He asked them to ensure the victory of coalition candidates for pushing forward the agenda set in motion by Omar Abdullah with renewed vigour. He told the workers that vote for coalition candidates will be supporting the people friendly policies of National Conference led by Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
