REASI, Jan 21: Launching a scathing attack on the State Coalition Government, the senior Congress leader and Ex-Minister Jugal Kishore Sharma today accused the present dispensation of weakening the Panchayati Raj Institution in the State.
Addressing a workers’ meeting at block Pouni, here today, Jugal Kishore blamed the present Government for weakening the Panchayati Raj Institution and said that indirect elections of Sarpanchs will snatch power from general public. He said that there is no process of electing indirect Sarpanchs in the entire country except J&K where the BJP- PDP Government is misleading the people of rural areas.
While addressing the Ex-Panchs and Sarpanchs, Jugal Kishore called upon them to gear up for the upcoming Panchayat elections whether it is held directly or indirectly and asked them to aware general public about the wrong policies of the State Government. On the occasion, Block Pouni Committee for Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan was also framed.
Sharma said that the previous NC-Congress Coalition Government had sanctioned Sub-Division status for Niabat Ransoo but the present Government has failed to establish the same. There is urgent need to sanction Sub-Division status for Ransoo which is the base camp of the holy cave shrine of Shiv Khori, being visited annually by lakhs of pilgrims from all across the country and State, he stressed.
Sharma further said that the establishment of Government Degree Colleges at Katra, Pouni and Bhamag was very old and popular demand of the people of these areas. “We raised the demand of opening Degree Colleges at Katra, Pouni and Bhamag from time to time but the State Government turned a deaf ear to a very genuine issue. We seek to know from the Government whether it intends to open Degree Colleges there or not particularly here at Pouni, where resentment among the locals is fast brewing up due to the delay in opening up a college. If ignored further the people may come on streets to raise the voice of protest,” said Sharma.
Those who were present in the meeting, included block president Congress Pouni Ajit Kesar, Ex- Assembly president Amit Sharma, Convenor RGPRS Jagdish Sharma and others.
