BJP promises moon to border people, delivers nothing: Tony

JAMMU, May 28: District Development Council (DDC) Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has expressed serious concern over the immense problems being faced by the farmers of border town RS Pura and Suchetgarh due to the alleged hollow policies of BJP led Government at the Centre.
Coming down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Union Government, Tony accused them of promising the moon to these border people and then providing them not even the crumbs. In a statement issued here today, the DDC member said that during Assembly elections BJP had promised to shift the barbed wire fencing along RS Pura and Suchetgarh borders to the Zero Line so that the farmers whose land falls near zero line would be able to cultivate their land but nothing has been done in this regard.
Moreover, he said, BJP had promised in 2014 to compensate the farmers who could not cultivate the land falling beyond the barbed wire fencing but no compensation of any sort has been provided till date despite seven years having passed and the hapless farmers continuing to live in penury.
Tony said that as if all this was not enough that the Government has now decided to take shift the aforesaid barbed wire fencing further inside the Indian Territory upto 135 ft instead of taking it to Zero Line. He said that army personnel will not allow anybody to cultivate land beyond the barbed wire near zero line. He lamented that this will leave substantial number of farmers along this border area with no land for cultivation besides others being left with very meager farming land not sufficient enough for the survival of their families.
The DDC member appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to personally intervene into the matter and take up the matter with the Government of India to ensure that justice is done to these farmers whose survival is at stake.
