JAMMU, Dec 28:  Pradesh Congress Committee president G A Mir today said that some BJP leaders were trying to distort the Congress history and misleading the nation over its role in the past.
Addressing party workers at a function organised at party office here  today to celebrate 132nd Foundation Day of the party,  Mir said that some leaders in BJP were trying to distort history of the Congress party and also projecting wrong picture before the young generation. He said that the role of Congress party and its top leaders can not be ignored in the freedom struggle of  the country.
Mir remembered the contribution  of great leaders of the party and crores of  Indians who fought against the mighty British rulers and underwent numerous sufferings and sacrifices for the sake of attaining  freedom for the country.
Referring to the BJP leadership at the Centre, Mir said the 132 -years  history of Congress party and this great nation can’t be segregated but unfortunately those in power at the Centre are trying to distort the historical facts and belittle the role of Congress stalwarts in order to make younger generation to forget the contribution and sacrifices of Congress leaders  and workers for the nation.
The senior leader said that it was the vision of Congress and its great leaders that the numerous challenges before  the nation at the time of freedom were successfully overcome and India today has  emerged as a great power and is a leader in various fields in the world. India is recognized in the world as a messenger of peace, and a vibrant democracy which is known for its unity in diversity.
The speakers cautioned the people about the challenges posed to the basic idea of India and secularism promoted by the Congress party and asked the Congress workers to defeat the designs of communal and divisive forces in the country.
PCC president earlier, unfurled the party flag at party office in  presence of  senior leaders and large number of party workers of  the District Congress Committee Jammu under the leadership of  Anil Chopra.  The activists of Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, and Seva Dal also attended in large number.
Prominent leaders who addressed the gathering included former PCC chief  Peerzada Mohd Sayeed,  Sham Lal Sharma, Rigzin Jora, Madan Lal Sharma, Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla,  GM Saroori, Haji Rashid Dar, Mohd Anwar Bhat and Kanta Bhan.
Senior leaders S. Gurmukh Singh, MS Niaz, Rajinesh Sharma,  Yogesh Sawhney, Vikram Malhotra, SS Channi, Manmohan Singh, Manjit Singh, Shah Nawaz, Namrata Sharma, Faqir Nath, Ch Bashir Naiz, Kuldeep Verma, GL Chalotra, Shiv Dev Singh, Indu Pawar, YB Sharma, BS Sambyal, Neeraj Kundan, Ch Sain Rashid Anayat Rather, Surinder Gupta, Sashi Sharma, Manjit Jatt, Chetan Wanchoo and others were also present.
Similar functions were held at Srinagar, Kathua, Udhampur Batote, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch and other district headquarters of the State.
