BJYM, Roopnagar residents protest against opening of wine shop

JAMMU, Mar 23: Expressing their anguish over opening of new wine shops in residential areas Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Jammu Rural along with residents of Lower Roopnagar today staged a protest demonstration at Lower Roopnagar and demanded the administration to cancel the allotted shop in the area.
A large number of people including women under the banner of BJYM assembled near the wine shop in Lower Roopnagar area and held protest raising slogans against the administration. They demanded shifting of wine shop to any other locality. The protestors also tried to block the vehicular movement on the Muthi Road.
BJYM president, Suresh Khajuria, while speaking to media said, “the opening of wine shop will bring a negative impact on the young generation and spoil the healthy atmosphere of the society”.
He added that the problems that are going to be surfaced after opening of the wine shop in their area was brought into the notice of locals leaders and concerned officers, but nothing was done by them, which forced them to come on roads.
The BJYM leader further said that at any cost the people will not allow for the opening of wine shops in their area. The residents also warned the Government of dire consequences, if wine shop will be opened in their locality.
The protesting residents stated that they had earlier approached the concerned SDM North and apprised him about the issue, and they were assured that the administration will take up the matter with Excise department over the closure of the wine shop but nothing was done till date.
