Block level committees formed to strengthen Gujjar Mahasabha

JAMMU, Dec 13:  Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasaba has demanded overall development of the tribal areas of the State especially in Poonch and Rajouri district.
Eshfaq-ul-Rehman Poswal president Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasaba in a press Statement issued today has said that in Poonch the tribal population is around 40% but the areas have been neglected from basic necessities of life. The Government is giving step motherly treatment to the tribal people and those who have political back up are taking benefits while the others are suffering miserably due to non availability of roads, water, electricity, ration, kerosene and other facilities. Due to the poor implementation of Centrally and State sponsored schemes which includes mid day meal, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Anganwadi (ICDS), National Rural Health Mission, Scholarship scheme under Social Welfare Department, Old age pension and others the tribal people have been ignored by the Government and due to the political backing the non tribal people are getting benefited,  he alleged. He  said that the Tribal Sub Plan amounting Rs 45 crore released by the State Government which was to be utilized before March has not been released yet. He demanded that State Government should release the funds which are kept with it  immediately. Poswal will start a week tour of Rajouri- Poonch areas, where he will hold public meetings especially with the tribal people and will form block level committees to strengthen the organization. He also appreciated the Panchs and Sarpanchs for their large participation in the recently held Legislative Council polls and further demanded the State Government to hold Block Development Council polls as soon as possible, and 73rd Amendment in Panchayats, Political reservation for Gujjars, and police recruitments for the tribal people specially those who live near LoC.
