JAMMU, Dec 8: Bharat Mukti Morcha (BMM) has expressed grave concern over denial of Fundamental Rights to Valmiki Samaj, Safai Karamcharis, bazigars, Shikligars, Gujjars, Bakerwals and various such other castes belonging to SC, ST & OBC communities in the State.
Talking to reporters here today, BMM State president Ashok Kumar Basotra said these communities were getting inhuman treatment through the hands of the Government.
Expressing his dismay over the treatment meted to these people, Mr Basotra said that despite 65 years of independence, the condition of Valmiki Samaj, Safai Karamcharis, Bazigars as well as other down-trodden communities has not improved in the State and it is going from bad to worse day by day.
He said these hapless people are leading a life worse than animals and are being deprived of PRCs despite the fact that they are the state subjects of J&K and were living in the State since times immemorial. This has affected the people of these communities and they are unable to obtain the title of their property, can’t purchase new properties of their choices, can’t apply for Government and semi-Government jobs, seek admission in professional colleges, can’t purchase shops and other business establishments etc.
Moreover’ they are unable to cast their vote in local elections and in this way they have been reduced to untouchables.
Holding the ruling class responsible for the same, he said they want to keep them as oppressed and suppressed.
He said moreover the privatization started by Government has also affected these hapless people as the big business men and contractors who earn crores of rupees pay a paltry sum from Rs 800 to Rs 3500 to them as labour.
He said these people are subject to atrocities and exploitation by the Government and other political parties and no political party including Congress, BJP, NC, PDP and JKNPP has worked to provide a succor to them or taken their cause vigorously with the Government.
He urged the Government not to test the patience of JMM and provide justice to these people at an earliest.
