AKHNOOR, Feb 25: The Border Lions Volleyball Club Pallanwala defeated Police Youth Club Akhnoor by (3-1) in the summit clash to lift the title trophy of the Sub-Divisional Level Volleyball Tournament at Govt Boys Higher Secondary School. here today.
In a dominating performance, the Border Lions Club, Pallanwala won the first two rounds before the Police Youth Club Akhnoor staged a comeback and won the third round.
However, the Border Lions Club bounced back in the fourth round to win the title by (3-1).
Girish Dayalan, SDM Akhnoor who was the chief guest on the occasion, asked the youth of the area to come forward and take interest in sports which inculcates brotherhood, healthy sense of competition and sportsmanship.
He gave away trophies and mementoes to the winners and the runner-up captains , besides track suits/sport shoes to the players of the 6 participating teams.
Mementoes were also given to the referees and the commentators.
Earlier, Farooq Qaiser, SDPO Akhnoor said that the purpose of organizing such tournaments is to channelize the youth energy in the right way and to enhance Police-Public relations.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Amit Kumar Bhagat, Tehsildar Akhnoor, Deepak Dubey, BDO Akhnoor, Balji Thaploo, Principal Govt Higher Secondary School (Boys) Akhnoor and Pardeep Sharma, SHO P/S Akhnoor.
The tournament was played as a part of the Civic Action Programme of J&K Police under the supervision of Atul Kumar Goel, SSP Jammu and M L Kaith, SP (Rural) Jammu.
