Boy lands in lock-up after drama

JAMMU, Dec 20: Kathua police today arrested a 12th class student hailing from Ramkot after he enacted a drama of kidnapping by the militants from his village Upper Rajwalta. SSP Kathua Mohan Lal told the Excelsior that the boy identified as Ganesh Kumar alias Sikander son of Hans Raj, a resident of Upper Rajwalta in Ramkot area of Kathua district had to appear in pre-Board examinations of 12th class but was ill prepared. “To get his paper cancelled or postponed and dodge the family, he left for the house of his maternal uncle Chain Singh son of Kaku Ram at Sumbh in Samba and narrated him a fake story that he had been kidnapped by two armed militants and that he had managed to escape from their custody,’’ the SSP said, adding the police of three districts including Samba, Kathua and Udhampur remained on their toes throughout the last night after Chain Singh informed about kidnapping of his nephew by the two militants. This morning, Kathua police took the boy to Ramkot to identify the route the militants had taken during his kidnapping, he broke down and narrated the true story that he had enacted the drama to escape from the pre-Board examinations. The youth was arrested and a FIR lodged against him. He has been booked under Section 505 RPC, Mr Mohan Lal said. To make the story look like real, the youth had briefed his maternal uncle as well as police that the militants took him to Cho Nullah from Ramkot and crossed Rhon bridge to reach Dhar road, boarded a truck up to Majalta Morh, crossed three mountains, reached a dera of Bakerwals before he escaped their custody at a Nullah when the militants were fetching water at 7.30 pm at Samba late last evening. The youth claimed that he had reached the house of maternal uncle at Sumb, where he narrated the incident to security forces. The SSP said police of all three districts of Samba, Kathua and Udhampur remained on high alert last night following disclosure by the youth.
