SRINAGAR, Sept 21: British High Commission team headed by Alex Pykett met All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) here at Srinagar today and discussed Sikh Community affairs in the State.
APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that Sikh Community firmly believes in Kashmiriyat and brotherhood and would put best efforts to strengthen it further.
“The National commission of Minorities has clearly spelt out that Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Parsis are minorities in India. There are certain special privileges for the people belonging to the minority communities. However for the reason best known to them the state government did not extend the National commission for minorities act to the J&K state,” he said.
Ajit Singh Mastana a prominent Sikh leader said when the Kashmiri Pandits migrated out of the valley post militancy, Sikhs stayed back but those living in rural areas faced a sort of migration. They moved to the city of Srinagar and other towns that they considered to be peaceful areas. Properties of Minorities in villages are now in ramshackle conditions and their fertile land is virtually useless.
A Sikh youth leader Pardeep Singh also highlighted Chattisingpora case in which 36 Sikhs were killed in march 2000 and Sikh community still waiting for probe.
