JAMMU, Aug 9: A workshop was conducted with special emphasis on emotional intelligence by British teaching assistants James Richardson and Suzanne Henry who are currently working with KC Public School under the British Council’s Generation UK-India programme.
The workshop commenced with an ice-breaking session followed by splitting the teachers into groups. Teaching assistants apprised the teachers of the school education system in UK and how it is different from the Indian system of education.
The highlight of the session was a discussion in groups about emotional intelligence after which each group presented their thoughts and shared their opinions.
A video on emotional intelligence was also shown. The five components of emotional intelligence, namely, self awareness, self regulation, empathy, internal motivation and social skills were discussed at length. Teachers were made aware how these components are important for professional growth as they are actually a set of skills that can be acquired and fostered.
Principal of the School, Amarendra Mishra while proposing vote of thanks said that the workshop will go a long way in helping the teachers gain international experience, examine their own values and attitudes, appreciate and value diversity and develop skills which will improve their professional competence.
