JAMMU, June 25: To lodge protest against steep hike in rail fare and freight charges affected by the Central Government, Bahujan Samaj Party today took out a march.
Shouting slogans and carrying placards, the protesting BSP activists took the march in a cavalcade of vehicles and also held a demonstration in front of the Governor House where they torched an effigy of the Union Railway Minister.
They also submitted a memorandum to the President of India through Divisional Commissioner Jammu. In the memorandum, the BSP has sought intervention of President of India for a roll back of the hiked rail fare and freight charges.
The protest march took off from the BSP headquarters at Narwal Pain and after passing through Satwari Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Fly Over via New Secretariat Road, Dogra Hall, Kachi Chawni, CPO Chowk, reached near the Raj Bhawan where a massive demonstration was held.
BSP national general secretary Narinder Kashyap, Rajaya Sabha member S Awatar Singh and BSP State president Tulsi Dass Langeh, who were leading the march, addressed the protesting BSP activists during the demonstration. They charged the Modi Government with failure to control price rise of essential commodities.
Mr Kashyap said that people who were expecting good days were now feeling deceived and in fact finding that their bad days had started rather.
Prominent among others, who took part in the protest march, included BSP State vice president R L Chadgotra, State general secretary Rakesh Wazir and ex MLA Som Nath.
