JAMMU, May 3: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has called on the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, to ensure prompt payment of outstanding dues to contractors involved in various Government departments.
During a meeting at the BSP office, the party’s State President, Darshan Rana, voiced concerns over the prolonged delays in payment, which have plagued contractors for over a decade.
Rana highlighted that contractors who provided materials for projects under the MNREGA scheme during 2016-17 are still awaiting compensation despite having completed all required formalities.
He noted that these delays have forced contractors to endure bureaucratic hurdles, hindering their financial stability and slowing down critical infrastructure work.
Rana asserted that although the Central Government has released funds to the Jammu and Kashmir Government for this purpose, payments totalling approximately Rs 400 crore remain pending.
This situation, he arged, not only places financial strain on the contractors but also impedes the pace of development in the region. The BSP leader warned that if the Government does not address these payment issues promptly, the party is prepared to escalate its actions, which could disrupt further administrative processes.
The responsibility for any such outcomes would lie with the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, he cautioned.
