SRINAGAR, Apr 27:  The Batamalloo Traders Association (BTA) today protested against Government’s delay in providing relief to the flood hit traders and businessmen of Batamalloo area of Srinagar.
The protesters said that about 1200 businessmen of Batamalloo lost property worth crores of rupees in last year’s flood.  “We were severely hit by the last year’s floods but Government has distributed cheques of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 among just a few flood affected traders and left the rest in lurch”, they said.
The General Secretary of BTA Abrar Ahmad said that the Central and the State Governments were discriminating against flood hit traders of Kashmir. The Central Government lavished all their treasures to rehabilitate Jaharkhand flood victims, but when it comes to rehabilitation of Kashmiri flood victims they only make hollow promises.
Abrar said that Batamalloo flood hit traders should have been provided relief on priority basis and without any delay as they contribute greater share in the taxes like VAT.
