Cambodia University VC visits JU

JAMMU, Jan 25: Vice Chancellor, Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University Ven. Khy Sovana Ratana, today visited University of Jammu and held a meeting with Prof. R. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor JU to assess the modalities of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University, Pnom Penh, Cambodia and the University of Jammu.
Both the Vice Chancellors discussed in detail the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed with the view of establishing academic, research and cultural cooperation and to collaborate, share and exchange the resources and projects such as faculty visits, students exchange, cross-institutional study, promotion of courses and pathways and sharing of information and related materials.
Describing the outreach exchange programmes as an important part of this University’s effort to make students understand the world in a better way, Prof. R D Sharma said that the agreement will help forge a closer partnership between the two academic institutions in the field of higher education and scholarly interactions, and will open up new vistas of exchange programs for the students.
Expressing views on the occasion the Vice Chancellor of Phreah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University Ven. Khy Sovana Ratana showed his gratitude for entering into an agreement with the land which has spread the message of the Buddha to the whole world. He said, ” it is a matter of great pleasure for me that I am here in Jammu and Karma Bhumi of the Buddha and became an instrument in providing an opportunity to the young minds of my country to have the visit of this pious land”.
Prof. Baidyanath Labh, Head of the Department of Buddhist Studies who played a key role in bringing the MoU in letter and spirit informed that with this agreement between these two institutions the students, scholars, teachers and administrations will be  able to visit each other’s institution and get acquainted with the way of working through faculty exchange and student exchange programmes.
Later speaking on the occasion, Prof. R.N. Singh stressed on strengthening the ties between the two nations and also requested the Vice Chancellor, Ven. Khy Sovana Ratana to implement the MoU in letter and spirit so that the necessary modalities for student and faculty exchange can be worked out.
The Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor of the Department.
Prominent among others who were present included Prof. Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Director (DIQA), Prof. V.D. Singh, Director (DDE), Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Prof. Anita Billawaria, Dr. Lalit Gupta etc., besides faculty members of the department, students and research scholars.
