Campaigning ends in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Apr 28:  Campaigning in Srinagar Parliamentary constituency ended this evening which is going to polls on April 30.
Authorities have made unprecedented security measures following two grenade attacks on the rallies of National Conference candidate, Dr Farooq Abdullah yesterday in which 17 persons were injured.
Sources said that 241 companies of Para-military CRPF have been deployed in the constituency. Out of these, 88 companies of CRPF have been deployed in Srinagar, 83 in Budgam and 70 companies have been deployed in Ganderbal.
At least 12 lakh voters are eligible to use their franchise in Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts of Srinagar Parliamentary constituency. Srinagar tops the electoral population with 5, 91, 977 voters followed by Budgam with 4,28,799 voters and Ganderbal with 1,50, 976.
The Assembly segments of the constituency are Kangan and Ganderbal in Ganderbal district, Hazratbal, Zadibal, Iddgah, Khanyar, Habbakadal, Amirakadal, Sonawar and Batmaloo in Srinagar district and Chadoora, Budgam, Beerwah, Khansahib and Charar-e-Sharief in Budgam district.
The 15 candidates are in fray in the Parliament segment. However the main contest is between National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Tariq Hamid Qarra.
