Srinagar, Sept 17: Dozens of fair price ration storekeepers today staged a protest against the Government over non-implementation of a Cabinet order and demanded their pending salaries.
The protesters converged at press enclave here and started massive sloganeering against coalition Government.
The protesters said that the erstwhile coalition of National Conference and Congress ordered their full-fledged inclusion into Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department. “However that order could not be fulfilled because of floods and code of conduct,” they said, adding: “the present Government despite assurances is not implementing the same.”
The protesters further said that they have not been paid their salaries from past 14 months.
The protesters were beating a massive drum and created ruckus inside the press enclave. The police, however, detained several protesters when they tried to march towards Lal Chowk. There was a minor scuffle between the two sides but the protest concluded on peaceful note.
