Car falls from Tarnah bridge, 6 injured

KATHUA, July 11: Six persons including four of a family were seriously injured after a speeding Maruti car fell into Tarnah river from bridge near Dayala Chak on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway this afternoon.
A police spokesman said a Maruti car, bearing registration No. JK08C/4472 which was on way to Kharote village near Kathua from Ramkote was hit against the railing of the bridge and then landed into the dry portion of the Tarnah river bed. Immediately after the mishap, the labourers engaged in the construction of nearby bridge and also collecting stones in tippers at river bed rushed to the accident site.
The mishap took place at round 4.15 pm and all the six injured were rushed to Hiranagar hospital where doctors after providing preliminary treatment referred them to GMC hospital, Jammu. The condition of two of them including Mohinder Singh (37), son of Karnail Singh of Kharotem who was driving car and his wife Kanta was stated to be critical.
The other four injured are 13-year-old Lakhwinder Singh, son of Mohinder and Shifali (9), daughter of Mohinder Singh, their relatives Veena Devi (54) and her daughter Vandana. The police has registered a case.
Meanwhile, eight pilgrims returning from Shri Amarnath yatra were injured after their vehicle (mini-bus) collided with a tractor trolley near Barian in Vijaypur area this evening. All the pilgrims were returning to Amritsar in Punjab. The speeding vehicle collided with the trolley on Highway near Hanuman Mandir (Barian), causing injuries to them. The injured were admitted to Samba district hospital.
