SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Carrom and Chess Championship started at Gujjarpatti area of Sogam in Lolab.
In this championship, eight teams from Charkut, Putshai, Wowura, Sogam, Paseran, Gund Manchhar, Chandigam and Tekipura are participating. The team members are of the age group of 14-17 years.
The championship will continue for 6 days and a total of 23 matches will be played with finals on January 9.
The local RR unit of Army in Sogam described it to be a way to promote these indoor sports and to develop a spirit of competition and confidence in youth and to further strengthen the bond between people and Army.
The prizes for the team, which will bag first, second and third teams, are sets of Carrom Board and Chess along with Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 1000 cash prizes respectively.
