JAMMU, Sept 25: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch (CB) Jammu today arrested an individual who is involved in multiple cases of fraud.
As per a Crime Branch official, Deepak Kumar of Nathal Chak, Hiranagar, Kathua, has been arrested for allegedly duping several individuals of their hard earned money between 2018 and 2024.
He said Kumar, who had been absconding since the latest case was filed, was apprehended from the outskirts of Kathua by a special team constituted by SSP Sandeep Kumar Mehta, led by Inspector Ashok Bazaz.
According to him, in the recent case, the accused duped Kuldeep Singh of Village Dabri, Samba, and others, by promising Government jobs in the MES Department.
“Kumar cheated them out of Rs 42 lakh by making them transfer funds to his account,” he said.
The CB official said that investigation has revealed that Kumar, an ex-Army man who left his job in 2018-19, was a habitual fraudster.
“He has allegedly defrauded people across Jammu and outside the Union Territory, amassing approximately Rs 1.80 crore,” said the CB official.
Further arrests are expected as the investigation into the case is underway, he added.
