JAMMU, Oct 12 : A delegation of Chamber of Commerce & Industry led by Y.V. Sharma, its president called on Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde during his visit to J&K today and submitted a memorandum .
It was stated by CCI members that if the country wants the safety and security of State and wants to solve various problems concerning the State, it has to develop and strengthen Jammu because Jammu is the citadel which can ensure it.
“Militancy is a problem which is not peculiar to State but is a nationwide phenomenon these days. But we believe that not punishing the militants even when cases are proved against them and when they have been convicted by the highest court of the country, sends wrong signals and encourages militancy in this sensitive State. We will also like to submit that Village Defence Committees which are not properly functioning at present should be made functional and adequately strengthen. The security agencies who are already doing a remarkable job in curbing militancy should be further strengthened and equipped with modern gadgets in sufficient quantities to deal militancy with firm hands,” they maintained.
“Jammu is a developing region of the State and as already stated its development is a guarantee for the welfare of State. It should receive the maximum attention of the Central Government. It is a fact verified and understood by the various Commissions and Committees appointed by the Central Government that the Kashmir centric Policies of the Central Government have not achieved the desired results. The politicians from the other region in power have always discriminated against this region. The Central Government has to understand this fact and attend to it on priority basis,” CCI members added.
They said people of Jammu always support the policies of the Central Government and are in favour of the ongoing dialogue with Pakistan and trade across the Line of Control. The Chamber wants this trade to flourish and intensify with opening of more routes for this purpose in order to mitigate tensions and increase better understanding between the two countries. Chamber wants Jammu to be a hub of Central Public Sector Units.
The delegation comprised of Sham Lal Langer, Anil Gupta, Arun Gupta, Deepak Aggarwal, and Bharat Bhushan Gupta.
