KARGIL, Feb 22: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today called on R K Singh, Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Govt of India at New Delhi and held a meeting with him in presence of top officers from Ministry of Power and NHPC.
During the meeting, there was a thorough discussion and deliberation on various issues concerning the power sector in district Kargil.
CEC Dr Jaffer informed the Minister about the overall power scenario in Ladakh and apprised him about the enormous potential of Kargil district in the generation of renewable energy through Hydro, Solar and Wind Power having the benefit of lower carbon footprint thus realising the dream of Carbon Neutral Ladakh.
The CEC also requested for resumption of works on five different hydropower projects in Kargil, that were sanctioned during the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir, including Kargil-Hunderman (24 MW) Sangrah-Mangdum (24 MW) Tamcha-Zanskar (19 MW) Drass Stage-1 (20 MW) and Sankoo (20 MW) projects.
The CEC further proposed other renewable energy initiatives in Kargil district for due consideration by the Ministry.
The Minister gave an encouraging response and assured the consideration of the issues raised by the CEC.
The CEC also held a separate meeting with top authorities of the Ministry of Power and NHPC.
Concerned officers of the Ministry, including Joint Secretary (Hydro) Mohd Afzal, Deputy Director (NHPC), Pankaj Kumar Sangwan, Director Technical NHPC, R K Chaudhar and Executive Director (S&BD), Rajat Gupta were present during the meeting.
