CEC seeks Mangolia help in pashmina, seabuckthorn processing

LEH, Aug 26: CEC, LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar today had a meeting with Sanjaasuren Bayaraa, Ambassador of Mongolia to create a platform for exchange of technology, expertise and skill development in sectors of Horticulture, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Handicraft and cultural exchanges between Mongolia and Ladakh considering their similar geographical and cultural backgrounds.
CEC put forth certain important issues to the notice of the Ambassador highlighting majorly on pashmina and seabuckthorn processing in the region and to look for innovative means and avenues for its value addition. Mentioning about the recent visit of a team including CEC, DC, Doctors, Engineers and other officials from Ladakh to Mongolia, CEC said that Ladakh now is what Mongolia was 30 years before in concern to Pashmina processing and product manufacturing. He expressed great hope to take full advantage of their visit and implement in action what all they have learned from Mongolia. He requested Bayaraa to extend their continuous support to help the Council live upto their vision of bringing sustainable development in Ladakh by sharing their expertise, specialty and technological knowhow.
Spalbar also suggested cultural exchange between the two involving students and cultural troops from Mongolia to perform in Ladakh Festival and Ladakhi troops to perform in their biggest cultural event thus giving way to evolution of the cultures which shares similar geography, culture and tradition. He even suggested Bayaraa to have a presentation from Ladakh during the 60th years of Diplomatic Relationship between India and Mongolia celebration next year. CEC also requested for assistant from the Mongolian Govt. in procuring a good quality dehiring machine for Ladakh for which is Council’s immediate priority and even has got the fund for it.
The Ambassador gave assurance to extend all possible help and support to Ladakh especially in processing of pashmina and seabuckthorn by bringing experts and specialists from Mongolia who would study the condition in Ladakh and give their feedback and suggestions on basis of their study and experience. He suggested involving both Government and private sectors in such projects and also to look for better marketing of local products like mineral water, local fruits etc.
