KOLKATA, Mar 18: Cement production in India went up to 25.88 million tonnes (mt) in January, 2016, an increase of 8.33 per cent compared to 23.89 mt recorded in December 2015. India Coal Market Watch (ICMW) after comparing a data reported that cement production in January, 2016 was up by 8.69 per cent compared to 23.81 mt produced in January, 2015. For the first 10 months (April-January) of 2015-16, India’s cement production stood at 230.20 mt, up by 2.91 per cent compared to 223.69 mt produced in the same period of 2014-15. Earlier, after touching a high of more than 24 mt in May 2015, cement production had witnessed a decline for four consecutive months, but rose 5.92 per cent to 22.73 mt in October. In November, again, production went downhill, largely owing to lack of demand. But in December, it somewhat bounced back thanks to a fall in the prices of pet coke, limestone and fuel. (UNI)
