JAMMU, Apr 19: MG Ghai, Chief Engineer (Civil), Salal Power Station today felicitated the winners of essay competitions organized during celebration of Centenary Year of ‘Champaran Satyagreh’ among the students of KV Jyotipuram and also among employees of Salal Power Station on the topic ‘Role of Mahatma Gandhi during ‘Champaran Satyagreh’.
The prizes were given away in an impressive Prize Distribution function, organized at Conference Hall of Salal Power Station.
Pertinent to mention that the competitions were organized during celebration of Centenary Year of ‘Champaran Satyagreh’ at all the locations of NHPC Limited including Salal Power Station from April 15 to April19, 2017.
A large number of employees and students participated in the competition enthusiastically and portrayed the plight of farmers at the hands of British Rulers and course of action by Gandhi Ji to mitigate the miseries of peasants.
During the function, Prabjyot Singh Ghai and Master Abhinandan Roshan, who stood first in the employees category and students category respectively read out their essays.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghai said that ‘Champaran Satygreh’ was probably the best example of Constructive Political Agitation wherein all out efforts were made to mitigate the problems of the peasants.
He said that this was a non-violent movement which paved the way for the freedom movement.
He further said that organizing such programmes enables the students’ community to understand the long freedom struggle by our ancestors.
