CEO orders probe as students used as porters

UDHAMPUR, May 2: In a case of glare negligence on the part of concerned teachers, two students of Government Middle School Meer, Pancheri, were injured when they fell down from a moving vehicle while carrying bundles of school books for distribution of the same in school.
Taking serious notice of students being used as porters, the CEO Udhampur has ordered a probe into the incident and asked ZEO Pancheri to submit him a report in this regard by forthcoming Monday.
According to the reports, these two students along with others were taken to Zonal Education Officer Pancheri office for carrying the school books, which were to be distributed among the other students.
Each student was asked to pick up bundles of school books and thereafter the staff members boarded a local mini bus instructing the students to manage themselves and bring the books to the school.
Later all the students with bundles of books climbed a Jonga which was plying on the route. Two students, who were carrying books and hanging near door of the Jonga, accidentally fell down on the road and sustained serious injuries.
They were shifted to Primary Health Centre Pancheri and later to District Hospital Udhampur. They have been identified as Raman son of Jagdev (Class 8) and Sat Paul, son of Som Ram (Class 7), both residents of Meer village.
Local residents and family members of the students said that it was the duty of the staff to manage the procurement of books and involving minor students in the affair was illegal.
Zonal Education Officer, Pancheri Yash Paul confirmed that the freight charges till the destination are duly paid to the In charge teachers and the incident had taken place because of glare negligence on part of the concerned teacher.
When contacted, CEO Udhampur Bishan Singh informed that the ZEO Pancheri has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a report by Monday.
