KATRA, Oct 5: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine has received the prestigious ‘Special Iconic Place’ award under the category of Swachh Iconic Places, an initiative of Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by the Government of India.
The award has been given in recognition of the Shrine Board’s excellent initiatives for ensuring sanitation and cleanliness all along the tracks and in the entire Shrine area.
The award was given by S S Ahluwalia, Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation, in the presence of Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, at a ceremony held in connection with the Swachh Bharat Diwas at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
This prestigious award was received by Jitendra Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
It is pertinent to recall that under the first phase of Swachh Iconic Places Scheme, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine has been selected as one of the Iconic Places in the country.
On the directions of Governor N N Vohra, Chairman Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, concerted efforts are being made and continuing initiatives are being taken to provide the best possible facilities to the pilgrims visiting the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji. Besides progressively working towards providing the best possible facilities to the visiting pilgrims, the other prime focus of the Shrine Board has been to keep all its establishments, the tracks and the entire Shrine area neat and clean. To ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, the Board deploys about 700 sanitation staff on round the clock duties.
The Board also carries out, on regular basis, special sanitation drives on the tracks, in the Bhawan area and in all its establishments, for ensuring utmost sanitation and cleanliness.
