POONCH, June 17: The mortal remains of former PCC president and Congress Legislature Party leader in J&K, Ch Mohd Aslam was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at his native village Lassana in Surankote tehsil of district Poonch this afternoon.
State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, former Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, Forest Minister Mian Altaf, Higher Education Minister Mohd Akbar Lone, MoS Sajjad Kichloo besides several other Ministers, Legislators from Coalition Government, Congress leaders, SP and DC Poonch besides thousands of people from all walks of life from Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu, Srinagar and other parts of the State attended Namaz-e-Zanaza of the departed Congress leader at around 2 pm today. His body was laid to rest just closer to the grave of his son, as per his wishes. The son had also passed away a few years back. Entire town observed bandh as mark of respect to the popular leader and majority of the people from the town and adjoining areas thronged the residence of Choudhary family at Lassana.
Ch Aslam, who was ailing for the last several months, breathed his last at his village last mid night. He held very important position in the party and remained Minister, Member Parliament and Speaker. Presently, he was MLA from Surankote and also CLP leader in the J&K Legislature.
State Governor, N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the sad demise of Ch Mohd Aslam and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
The Chairman of State Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra, Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul and Dy Chairman Legislative Council Javed Rana have expressed deep shock over the death of Ch Aslam, who passed away last night. In their condolence messages, they described veteran Congress leader’s death as loss to the State in general and the people of his Surankote constituency in particular. They also expressed sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Former Union Health Minister and leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, top NC leader and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz also condoled the sad demise of veteran Gujjar leader Ch Aslam. These leaders while praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul, conveyed their sympathies to the family, relatives and well wishers of the departed soul. They described Ch Aslam as symbol of simplicity, honesty and integrity who always remained committed to the service of down trodden and marginalized people of the State.
Meanwhile, Council of Ministers from J&K have also condoled the sad demise of veteran Congress leader Ch Mohd Aslam who passed away last night. Dy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Haj, Auqaf and Floriculture Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, Minister for RDD Ali Mohd Sagar, Minister for Forest and Ecology Mian Altaf, Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Health and Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for PHE, I&FC Sham Lal, Minister for Agriculture production Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Housing and Sports Raman Bhalla, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo, Minister for Higher Education Mohd Akbar Lone, Minister for CAPD and Transport Ch Ramzan, Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Sadhotra, Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Minister for R&B Abdul Majid Wani and Minister of Law and Justice Saifullah Mir in their joint message expressed deep sorrow over the sad demise of Ch Mohd Aslam.
Ministers of State, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Dr Manohar Lal, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Vikar Rasool, Feroz Ahmed Khan and Nazir Ahmed Gurezi also condoled the death of veteran Gujjar leader and extended their sympathies to the bereaved family.
The members of Committee on Public Undertakings and Environment J&K Legislative Assembly including G M Saroori, Dr Mustafa Kamaal, A R Veeri. Tsetan Namgyal, Mohd Yasin Shah, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Aijaz Ahmed Jan, besides Balwant Singh Mankotia, Nasir Aslam Wani, Mohd Ashraf Ganai, Abdul Razak Wagey and Mushtaq Ahmed Shah also condoled the sad demise of Ch Aslam.
Pradesh Congress Committee has deeply condoled the sad demise of veteran Congress and CLP leader Ch Aslam who passed away at his village in Surankote last night. In a condolence meeting held at party headquarters here today, the PCC members expressed profound grief and shock over the untimely demise of Ch Aslam and described him as a dedicated and sincere soldier of the party. A two-minute silence was observed to pay respect to the departed soul during the condolence meeting. Prominent among those present included, Th Hari Singh, Mula Ram, Dharam Paul Sharma, R S Chib, Vinod Sharma, Chuni Lal Bhat, Parkash Sharma, Om Chopra, Darshan Raina, Maheshwar Singh, S R Sushir, Ashwani Puri, Ravi Singh Slathia, Neeraj Gupta, Pawan Raina, Gurmeet Singh, Ch Sain Rashid, Dr Kanwal Singh and Vijay Sharma.
Former MP and Minister Madan Lal Sharma, former Minister R S Chib, AICC member and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil, MLA Rajouri Shabir Khan have also condoled the death of veteran Gujjar leader. In a condolence meeting, the National Conference leaders including Devender Singh Rana-MLC, Dr Shehnaz Ganai-MLC, S S Slathia, Ajat Shatru Singh, Mushtaq Bukhari, Harbans Singh, Kashmira Singh, Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy-MLC, Rachhpal Singh-MLA, Abdul Ghani Malik, Bimla Luthra-MLA, Vijay Bakaya-MLC, Master Noor Hussain-MLC, Brij Mohan, S P Lakhotra. Pt Govind Ram Sharma, Ram Paul, Vijay Lakshmi Dutta and others expressed shocked over the death of Ch Aslam and convyed their sympathies to the bereaved family.
PDP in a condolence meeting held at Srinagar this afternoon expressed grief over the death of veteran Gujjar leader Ch Aslam and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family. Party patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed and party president Mehbooba Mufti recalled their association with the late Ch Aslam and politics and self-less service rendered by him for the poor and down trodden members of the society. They said that Late Aslam was a man of integrity and his death has created a void in the political field. They prayed for everlasting peace for the departed soul.
Meanwhile, All J&K Gujjar Officers Association has also condoled the sad demise of veteran Gujjar leader, Ch Aslam. The members expressed their sympathy with the bereaved family.
