Changwon (Korea), Apr 15:
Chain Singh missed out on a berth in the final of men’s 50-metre rifle 3 position by only a point as the Indian shooting team finished its campaign at the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) with one Olympic quota and two bronze medals, here today.
Besides Chain Singh, the other two rifle shooters in the fray – London Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang, and Sanjeev Rajput, too, could not clear the final qualifying a day after surviving the elimination round.
The closest to the final berth was Chain Singh, who could not make it to the qualification round giving way to Russian Nazar Loginets by just a single point.
Chain Singh managed to score 1173, while Narang finished 33rd with a total of 1162 and Rajput finished 47th scoring 1155 in the final qualification round.
This marked the end of India’s campaign at the event where Apurvi Chandela and Jitu Rai won a bronze each, with the former bagging a Rio Games quota for the country. Apurvi’s medal earned India its second Olympic quota place after Jitu.
The focus now shifts to the ISSF Shotgun World Cup, to be held in Larnaca, Cyprus from April 24 to May 10. 10 (6 for men and 4 for women) quota places will be up for grabs in that tournament. (PTI)
