JAMMU, Nov 2: Expressing his pleasure over putting the State of J&K at par with the rest of the country, the former Union Minister, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta indicted those who are allegedly out to create confusion and misgivings by raising the emotional issue about the end of the empire created by the great Maharaja Gulab Singh to cover up their own servile’s role in the creation of fiefdom of few families and thus, a big mess of the situation costing heavily not only for the people of this State but to the entire country.
Observing that it was natural to have some harsh measures to correct the wrongs of misrule of so many years, Prof Gupta stressed for fair play and justice to all so as to make feel that a new era has dawned for their betterment.
In a statement, Prof Gupta recalled that those elements who are now shedding the crocodile’s tears over the breaking the Dogra’s Empire, had themselves launched a Quit Kashmir Movement under the leadership of Sheikh Mohd Abdullah raising the slogans of “Dogro Kashmir Chhor Do” in 1944 and Jawahar Lal Nehru had come to the rescue of the Sheikh when the Government of Maharaja launched a sedition case against the friend of Nehru.
The statement also recalled that again in 1948, when the Indian troops were moving fast in pushing back the Paki invaders, then because of certain designs of the imperialists, Pt Nehru had agreed to the said suggestion of the Sheikh for a ceasefire and thus, over 1/3rd of Maharaja Gulab Singh’s State was left under occupation of the aggressor Pakistan. And thus, a big part had gone in the hands of the enemy and some top leaders of the NC had been talking about the leaving these areas at the hands of the enemy to buy peace, he added.
Prof Gupta said that over the decades what wrongs had been inflicted to the people of the State, moreso to Jammu and Ladakh as also to the minorities, backward classes and the scheduled tribes is a plethora of high handedness.
Prof Gupta asserted that J&K is core of India and there should be no differential treatment but for integrity and welfare of the common people, not for certain families whose fiefdom has come to an end due to abrogation of Article 370.
