Srinagar, Jan 28: Seven years have passed but Chanapora-Kunzar Bridge in North Kashmir’s Tangmarg area of Baramulla district is still incomplete because of lack of funds.
The bridge is being constructed over Kunzer stream and was supposed to connect half a dozen villages with Tangmarg, the famous tourist destination in North Kashmir.
Rouf Ahmad, Axion at Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Limited, said the construction work was actually supposed to be carried by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) but for some unknown reasons they did not complete the project on time and left it mid way.
“We have just taken over the project and would try to complete the work in record time,” he said and added that two stands of the bridge completed by ERA were washed away during September 2014 floods.
Local Sarpanch Ghulam Geelani Reshi said bridge connects villages like Bongam, Devipora, Dardepora, Pariswani, Wangam and Genbabun with rest of the town but because of the delay in its completion people are facing intense hardships in the area.
“The authorities come and survey the bridge site but are not taking any step to complete the construction of it,” complained the locals.
