RAMBAN, June 11: Residents of Chanderkote here today staged a protest demonstration demanding restoration of water supply to their area and blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for some time.
A large number of people including men and women gathered on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Chanderkote and held a protest against contractor companies of NHAI and Jal Shakti Department for not restoring water supply to their area.
The protestors said the water supply pipe line leading to the other side of the highway was damaged at several places due to four-lane construction work some time back which badly hit the water supply.
The protesters said that the matter was brought into the notice of concerned Jal Shakti Department but no action has been taken by them till date.
“There has been no water supply to the area for the last 15 days,” Krishan Singh a local claimed.
Later Police and Naib Tehsildar Chanderkote reached the spot and pacified the protesters who demanded intervention of Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam to intervene.
