Chhattisgarh gains 1st innings lead as match ends in draw

JAMMU, Jan 30: Visitors Chhattisgarh gained a vital lead of 102 runs over hosts Jammu and Kashmir as the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match ended in a draw at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
After the rain and wet outfield played spoilsport and wasted two and a half day’s play, the match resumed in the second session of the 4th and final day today.
Chhattisgarh declared their first innings at 270/4 and bundled out J&K for 168 to gain a lead of 102 runs.
Only 40 overs game was due for the day after the delayed start today, but Chhattisgarh bowlers dismissed the opposition in 32.1 overs by hitting good areas and bowling with nagging line and teasing length. Abdul Samad top scored with 33 runs off 30 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes, while Abid Mushtaq contributed brisk 31 off 19 balls, studded with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Waseem Raza, Fazil Rashid and Suryansh Raina were the other contributors with 29, unbeaten 27 and 23 runs respectively.
From Chhattisgarh, Sumit Ruikar took 4 wickets, while Veer Pratap Singh and Ajay Jadav Mandal claimed 3 wickets each.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha has surpassed Jammu and Kashmir in the points table and is now topping Elite Group-C with 35 points after seven outings, while J&K is at number 2 spot with 33 points, Services, Haryana and Jharkhand are at 3rd, 4th and 5th spot with 26, 24 and 22 points respectively.
