SRINAGAR, June 30: Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib today announced Rs. 5 lakh for the development of playground of Government Higher Secondary School, Yaripora.
This announcement was made by the Minister while addressing at the final of T-20 Cricket Tournament organized by Sports Club Kulgam at Yaripora of Kulgam district. The final was played between Yaripora and Gazipora teams which was won by Yaripora team by 10 runs.
As many as 55 teams from South Kashmir participated during the tournament.
The Minister said that the government is making all out efforts for development and upgradation of sports infrastructure in the state for which various initiatives have been taken.
Chib while lauding the organizers for conducting tournament said it was a grand initiative to exploit the sports talent of the youth of remote areas. He said youth of the state have ample sports talent and potential, which needs to be channelized and polished in a befitting manner. He hoped that conduct of such tournaments would go a long way in exploiting and shaping the sports talent into the cricket main stage by way of nurturing budding cricketers who would bring laurels to the state.
Chib highlighted the importance of sports and said that it imbibes team spirit, discipline and Physical fitness which are the basic requirements for living a successful life and become a good citizen.
Responding to demands, the Minister directed Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam for preparing DPRs for the development of Nona Mati Stadium, besides taking matter of construction of old building of the school with the concerned department.
Later, the Minister gave away trophies among winner and runner-up teams.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam Jehangir Mir, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, besides District Sports officers, other senior officers of district administration were also present on the occasion.
