JAMMU, June 4: Former Minister and senior Congress leader R S Chib has expressed shock and surprise over the statement made by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in the Assembly, in connection with the allotment of land for residential purposes, to those residents of border areas, who are residing closer to zero line.
The provision of 5 marla plots to the inhabitants of border areas, was a commitment, made by the State Govt, subsequently a resolution was also passed in J&K Legislative Council for allotment of 5 marlas plots to them, living near LoC and IB, since they have been suffering for the last seven decades due to cross border firing.
As stated by the Chief Minister, based on the decision of MHA, the construction of Community Type Bunkers (CTBs) was okayed instead of residential plots, but it is not the solution, Mr Chib said.
He further added that, these bunkers can serve an emergency measure and the effected people along with their families cannot stay over there for longer period.
Mr Chib said that the Chief Minister is not aware of the problems of those residents who are shifted to safer locations in Govt buildings and pirate accommodation, along with their families. He said that the residents on IB and LOC, residing from Kathua, Hiranagar, Samba, Bishnah, RS Pura and Akhnoor sector had been worst sufferer. He urged upon the State Govt to take up this issue with the Govt of India to reconsider the long pending demand of Border Security Forces have been facing the wrath of unprovoked firing by Pak forces, for many decades.
Mr Chib also reminded the BJP and PDP leaders, of the election speeches in which, they had been making, loud promises of providing 5 marlas plots to the border residents.
