JAMMU, Nov 5: Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, R. S. Chib today flagged off 17 wrestlers of the State for participation in Senior National Championship to be held at Gonda (Ayodhya) in Uttar Pradesh from November 8 to 11, 2012.
The wrestlers including 13 men and 4 women have been selected for this mega championship on the base of their performance in the recently held 21 days camp organized by Jammu and Kashmir Wrestling Association.
While speaking on the occasion, the Minister gave his best wishes to the wrestlers and hoped that the wrestlers would earn name and fame for the State by the dint of their talent. He said that youth from the State especially from rural areas are showing keen interest in the wrestling.
The Minister stressed on the need for promoting sports culture by holding regular championships and tournaments especially in remote areas of the State. He also underlines the importance of sports activities for shaping overall personality of the youth. He said that the State Government has prioritized creation of adequate sports infrastructure right from village level to revive the sports culture in the State.
Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Wrestling Association, Dushyant Sharma was present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, today selected teams in presence of general secretary, J&K Wrestling Association, Dushyant Sharma, former president of Wrestling Federation of India.
Prominent among others who were present on the occasion were Ajay Vaid, Mohd Sadiq, Ravi Singh, Raju Pahalwan, Om Parkash and Dheeraj Sharma.
The team: Bharat Bhushan, Sunny Bansotra, Kaka Ram, Yaqoob Ali, Gurdeep Singh, Attar Din, Vivek Chander, Bahadur Khan, Mohd Asif, Isakh Khan, Javed Khan, Sajad and Shalinder Singh, while in girls section Nisha Devi, Gurpreet Kour, Stanzin Noryang, Stanzin Dolkar have been selected.
Sahil Sharma, Mohd Sadiq and Sukhdev Singh will accompany the team as coaches and managers.
