SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib today inaugurated National Coaching Camp (NCC) and Advanced Coaches Training Camp (ACTC) at Youth hostel, Gogji Bagh, Srinagar.
The 7-day camp was organized by Special Olympic Bharat- J&K Chapter in collaboration with Special Olympic Bharat (SOB) and Sahyog India Limited in which over 300 special athletes including persons with intellectual disabilities and mentally challenged, besides 100 coaches from 12 states of the country participated.
During the week long training-cum-coaching camp, the Special Athletes would be imparted training for athletes in Badminton and Bocee in the play field of Government Amar Singh College, Srinagar.
Welcoming the delegates who came from outside the state, the Minister said that they will get unique experience for visiting the State.
Chib lauded the tireless efforts of State Chapter of Special Olympics for the overall development of Special Athletes through the medium of sports. “I am enthralled to see the hidden talent of the special athletes in cultural and sports activities which is really a great motivation and eye opener for all of us, he said, adding that we have to encourage and support them for leading a dignified life”.
The Minister asked the coaches for imparting the training to this special section in such a way so that they can compete at International and national levels.
State President, Special Olympics Bharat- J&K Chapter, Dr. Ashwani Jojra, in his welcome address, appealed all the sections of society to contribute for bringing forward the SOB movement in every nook and corner so that the dream of Founder of Special Olympic International, Late Eunice Shriver Kennedy could be fulfilled.
National Director, SOB Victor Vaz also spoke on the occasion.
Among others, Principal, Government Amar Singh College, Srinagar Prof Zahoor Ahmad, Director, Youth Services and Sports S. Jaipal Singh, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports Madan Lal, Deputy Director, Youth Services and Sports Ashok Kumar, SP, Traffic, Srinagar, officials, volunteers and members of various NGOs were present on the occasion.
