SRINAGAR, May 31: Minister for Medical Education Mr. R S Chib inaugurated SDA Drabu Memorial T-20 knock-out Cricket Tournament-2012 here today.
The tournament was organized by Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Players Association in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council in the memory of late Drabu. It is also an endeavour for popularizing cricket in the state.
Paying rich tribute to Drabu, Chib highlighted the qualities of late cricketer. He said that late Drabu worked hard for the promotion of cricket in the state.
Referring to Jammu Premier League and Kashmir Premier League, the Minister said the leagues would be merged together and it would be regular feature in the coming days of sports activities . He said that three outstanding selected players from these leagues would be deputed for advanced training in National Cricket academies for fine tuning their talent.
As many as 64 teams are participating in the tournament in which two matches would be played in a day at knock out basis. The C D Cricket Club, Dalgate took on City Hunk Cricket Club, Srinagar in the inaugural match of the tournament.
Among others, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council Kiran Wattal, President, J&K Cricket Players Association Ishfaq Mir, Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Jammu Sidhharth Sharma, Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Kashmir Prof B A Shah, representatives from JKCA and large number of sports lovers were present
