NEW DELHI, Aug 29: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram will review the roadmap he had drafted to boost tax collection and issues related to black money during an interaction with top brass of the Income Tax department and CBDT next month.
The one-day conference was earlier scheduled on August 31 but has now been postponed to September 3 due to some administrative reasons, a senior IT official said.
This would be the first interaction of Chidambaram, after he assumed charge of the finance minister, with all the Chief Commissioners (CCs) and Directors General (DGs) of the IT department from across the country.
Chidambaram recently held a similar conference with the top brass of the Customs and Central Excise officials who administer indirect taxes in the country.
The IT department and its controlling authority – Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) – are expected to make a presentation to the minister about various issues concerning this direct taxes collection wing of the Finance Ministry.
Chidambaram is also expected to address a host of issues with regard to revenue collection, measures taken against the menace of black money, taxpayer friendly steps, better delivery of IT department services and subjects related to cadre and personnel management of the department. (PTI)
