Chill to continue, Pahalgam, Leh recorded coldest night

SRINAGAR :  There will be no immediate relief from chill as minimum temperature will remain below freezing point in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where Pahalgam with minus 5.2 degree celsius and Leh minus 12.8 degree recorded coldest night of the season so far.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, with minus 2.7 degree continued to remain colder than world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the minimum temperature was minus 1.8  degree.
A Met department spokesperson said weather will be mainly dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
There will be no large change in the weather during subsequent two days, he said, adding  that the chill will continue because of open sky and dry weather.
Leh, in Ladakh region, recorded coldest night of the season after the minimum temperature dropped to minus 12.8 degree against yesterday’s minus 10.8 degree. However, the earlier coldest was minus 12.6 degree on December Ist.
The border town of Kargil on the Srinagar-Leh national highway also witnessed considerable drop in the night temperature. Against yesterdays minus 6 degree, it was minus 9.7  degree.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, in south Kashmir also witnessed coldest night of the season so far after the minimum temperature dropped to minus 5.2 degree, a notch colder than  yesterday.
Srinagar with minus 2.7 degree, lowest of the season, was colder than Gulmarg where the minimum temperature was minus 1.8 degree, two notches above normal.
Qazigud with minus 3.2 degree, Kokernag minus 0.1 degree and Kupwara minus 3.2 degree also recorded below normal temperature. (AGENCIES)
